What the hell is up with Level-5 Games and their obsession with clowns? I’ve played Dragon Quest VIII, Dark Cloud 1 and 2, and I was looking into White Knight Chronicles, and in EVERY GAME, there are clowns. Clowns are usually either major bosses, or a huge center point of a main plot theme or a major city. The first thing you do in Dark Cloud 2 is rush off to a carnival, and you end up getting attacked through the game by the head of the evil carnival.
Oh wait, Rogue Galaxy had a carnival too! And come to think of it, most of those games had an item combination system that features a Frog doing the combining…
Is this an inside joke? A lack of original ideas? A throwback to previous games? …Clown/Frog fetish?
I don’t think I can listen to this band anymore without remembering about how much I hurt you. Will it ever be like it used to be? I wish I could take it all back…
First off I would like to thank ezralahm for linking me to other examples of ethnic angels. It makes me happy that there has at least been some effort in the past to diversify the Multiverse. I think that female representation is important in fantasy games, but the…
This entire argument is absurd. I have studied many a fantasy world, played many a video and card game, and I can honestly say that Magic is one of, if not THE most ethinically and gender sensitive and aware sources of fantasy lore that I have ever encountered. Honestly, I feel that part of it is because they make no references or notices to what the genders or races are supposed to entail. Koth is black, yes, but does that really affect his character at all? No, he’s just Koth, loyal Vulshok and Geomancer Planeswalker who really loves his home. Does the fact that the Angels are female by nature have any true effect on their character? No, as a matter of fact, if all of the angels were male, it probably wouldn’t have made much of a difference. The women are all very conservatively dressed, and sex isn’t really a factor in the lore at all. Hell, I would venture that if every single character in Magic History was gender swapped and had their race changed, it WOULDN’T EVEN MAKE A DIFFERENCE AT ALL. Because it doesn’t have any effect on Magic as a whole. Magic isn’t about women being portrayed as women, or black or asian or white characters being portrayed as such. It’s about heroes, villains, and monsters being heroes, villains, and monsters. When a person sees racism and sexism like was portrayed in this argument, they are just looking for a reason to complain about something because they don’t want to be proven wrong. Maybe, just maybe, we should take a page out of MTG’s book and stop classifying everyone and everything in terms of race and sex, and start seeing people for what they are. People.
